Amazon Seller Insurance for Israeli Sellers
With no full Amazon store at home, Israeli brands sell straight to Amazon.com. That makes the US insurance rule the first one most Israeli sellers meet, and often the hardest to buy locally.
Amazon.com is the home market
Israel has no full Amazon marketplace of its own, so Israeli brands list on Amazon.com, often from the first day of business. That reverses the usual order: the US insurance rule is the first rule an Israeli seller meets, not an add-on to a domestic program. It also means the first claim against an Israeli brand is far more likely to come from an American buyer than from a local one.
The trigger matches every other seller’s. Within 30 days of passing $10,000 in gross proceeds in a month on Amazon.com, or sooner on Amazon’s request, you need limits of at least $1 million per occurrence and aggregate, with Amazon.com Services LLC and its affiliates and assignees as additional insured. Our Amazon seller insurance requirements page lists the rest.
Trade between the two countries runs on the US-Israel Free Trade Agreement of 1985, the first free trade agreement the United States signed. Customs paperwork is familiar ground for most Israeli exporters; insurance is where the friction usually sits.
What Israeli policies leave out
Like most policies written outside North America, Israeli products liability policies are built around local claims. Before relying on one for Amazon.com, check whether the territory clause reaches suits filed in US courts, and whether your US sales were declared when the policy was priced.
At home, the Defective Products Liability Law of 1980 makes manufacturers, importers and brand owners strictly liable for bodily injury caused by a defective product. Israeli founders often treat that as the worst case. US product suits add property damage, punitive damages in some states and jury trials, which is why insurers price US sales on their own terms.
The rating requirement is the second hurdle. Amazon wants an insurer rated A- or better by S&P or AM Best, or a local equivalent it accepts. An Israeli insurer without either rating can mean asking Seller Support for an exception, and that takes time an Amazon deadline does not always leave.
Electronics, Dead Sea cosmetics and the November change
Common Israeli categories on Amazon.com include consumer electronics and gadgets, Dead Sea cosmetics and skincare, and home and kitchen goods. Two of those meet Amazon’s enhanced-safety rule from November 2, 2026.
Dead Sea mud, salt and mineral products count as cosmetics, and gadgets with rechargeable cells count as lithium-battery products. In both groups, Amazon wants the $1 million policy from the first listing, regardless of sales, and that applies to listings already live.
Underwriters ask Dead Sea cosmetics brands for ingredient lists, US labels and any reports of skin reactions, and electronics brands for battery test reports and safety data sheets. Having those ready shortens the quote considerably.
Which company holds the account
Most Israeli sellers send stock by air or sea to FBA or a US prep center. Amazon does not act as importer of record, so an Israeli company either registers as a non-resident importer through a US customs broker or imports through a US subsidiary.
Startups that raised money through a Delaware parent often already have a US company in place, and then the question becomes which company holds the Amazon account. The name on the policy must match the legal entity in Seller Central. An account opened by the Israeli Ltd and a policy bought for the Delaware parent do not match, and Amazon rejects that certificate. Decide which entity sells, then insure that one.
Amazon’s tax interview gives an Israeli company IRS Form W-8BEN-E. Keep your Israeli company number, that form and the importer’s details together, because underwriters ask for the same names.
Hebrew paperwork, English underwriting
US underwriters read English. Test reports, ingredient lists, safety data sheets and labels prepared for the Israeli market often exist only in Hebrew, and a quote waits while they are translated. Ask your lab and your packaging designer for English versions as a matter of routine, and the US file builds itself.
The same goes for the company details. Your Israeli company number, registered address and the name in Seller Central should read identically in English on every document. Transliteration is a quiet source of rejected certificates: a name spelled one way on the registry extract and another way in Seller Central does not match, as far as Amazon is concerned.
Check the current deductible rule in Seller Central before you bind as well. Israeli policies often state the deductible in shekels, and Amazon reads the certificate in US dollars, so ask your insurer to show the figure in dollars on the certificate.
Sunday to Thursday, Monday to Friday
Israel’s working week runs Sunday to Thursday, and Tel Aviv sits seven hours ahead of New York and ten ahead of California for most of the year. Only four working days overlap with the US week, and the shared hours fall in the Israeli afternoon.
A request from Amazon that arrives on a US Thursday afternoon lands during the Israeli weekend, so it pays to arrange the US policy before Amazon asks rather than after. For a quote, send the legal name and address as Seller Central shows them, your US sales and forecast, the product list, and who imports.
We work with hundreds of Amazon sellers, and we place US product liability for Israeli companies whether the account sits with the Ltd or a US entity. Our international sellers guide and the Amazon seller insurance hub cover the wider picture.
A few useful answers
Common questions
Can an Israeli company buy Amazon.com insurance through Mithril1?
Yes. We place US product liability for Israeli sellers in the Israeli company’s name, or for a US entity if that company holds the Amazon account.
Does my Israeli products liability policy work for Amazon.com?
Check the territory clause, whether US sales were declared, the insurer’s rating and whether it can name Amazon in the exact additional insured wording. Policies written for Israeli claims often miss at least one of these.
We have a Delaware parent and an Israeli subsidiary. Which should hold the policy?
The one that holds the Amazon account. Amazon matches the name on the policy against the legal entity in Seller Central, so insure the selling company and, where the other entity imports or owns the brand, ask for it to be covered as well.
Does the US-Israel Free Trade Agreement change my insurance?
Not directly. The agreement shapes customs entry, not liability. The policy is built around where your products are sold and which company holds the Amazon account.
Do Dead Sea cosmetics need insurance before $10,000 in monthly sales?
From November 2, 2026, yes. Cosmetics are an enhanced-safety category on Amazon.com, so the $1 million policy applies at any sales level, including listings already live.
