All resources

Describe how food reaches the customer

  • List dine-in, takeaway, delivery, catering and events separately.
  • Describe cooking methods and equipment, seating and operating hours.
  • Mention alcohol service or sales and any planned changes rather than assuming they are included.

Make a practical property and people list

  • Gather the lease’s insurance requirements and identify equipment you own or lease.
  • List kitchen equipment, refrigeration and typical stock, including seasonal changes.
  • Describe employee roles and payroll estimates, and who performs deliveries.
  • Note changes to the premises, capacity or services since the current policy began.

Questions for the insurance discussion

  • What should I review for equipment breakdown, spoiled stock and interruption to trading?
  • How would off-premises catering or delivery affect the coverage being discussed?
  • Which exclusions or separate coverages need attention for the activities I listed?

Keep this list with your business records and update it when your work changes. Your answers give the insurance conversation a concrete starting point; the checklist does not determine which policy you need.
