Amazon Seller Insurance for Sellers in Turkey
Selling on Amazon.com from Türkiye? Here is how a Turkish product liability policy treats US lawsuits, what Amazon’s insurance rule asks of you, and what we need to quote US cover.
Amazon’s push for Turkish sellers in the US
Amazon is courting Turkish sellers for its US store. At the Istanbul Global E-Export Summit in September 2026, Amazon described its SEND service, which lets sellers in Türkiye ship to Amazon’s US fulfillment centers through carriers Amazon Türkiye has contracted, and it set a goal of more than 10,000 Turkish sellers active in the US.
Selling in the US brings Amazon’s insurance rule with it. A seller whose gross proceeds on Amazon.com pass $10,000 in a month has 30 days to show commercial liability insurance, or less time if Amazon asks first. The policy needs at least $1 million per occurrence and in the aggregate, Amazon added as additional insured by endorsement, and an insurer rated A- or better.
Our Amazon seller insurance requirements page covers each of those points, and our product liability insurance page explains what the cover pays for when a product injures someone or damages their property.
Why a Turkish policy stops at Turkish courts
Turkish product liability insurance is written on the Ürün Sorumluluk Sigortası Genel Şartları, the general conditions insurers in Türkiye use for this line. They say the cover applies within the geographic limits the parties agree. Unless the contract says otherwise, they exclude compensation suits filed in any court other than the courts of the Republic of Türkiye, and arbitration as well.
For an exporter, that exclusion is the whole issue. A customer hurt in Ohio sues in a US court, and a policy on the standard conditions does not respond unless the contract expressly sets the exclusion aside and the geographic limit takes in the United States. Ask your broker to show you both clauses in writing, rather than relying on the words “yurt dışı” on the schedule.
Even with both clauses changed, Amazon’s reviewer still looks for its own endorsement wording in English, limits in US dollars and an insurer rated by S&P or AM Best. Many Turkish sellers keep the Turkish policy for domestic and European sales and add a US policy for Amazon.com. We request US product liability for sellers based in Türkiye, and the insurer decides once it has reviewed the products.
Towels, robes and rugs: the textile questions
Home textiles are where many Turkish brands begin on Amazon.com: cotton towels and bathrobes from mills in Denizli, a city whose economy grew on textile production and exports, and carpets and rugs, a sector whose Istanbul exporters count the US among their largest buyers.
Rugs carry a specific US rule. The CPSC requires carpets and rugs made, imported or sold in the US to meet the flammability standards in 16 CFR parts 1630 and 1631, and manufacturers and importers certify that in a written General Certificate of Conformity based on testing. Bathrobes and other garments fall under the clothing textile standard in part 1610, with stricter rules for children’s sleepwear. Send those reports with the application and the underwriter has the answer before asking.
Most textile lines sit outside Amazon’s enhanced-safety list. Products designed for children, such as hooded toddler robes or baby towels, fall in the children’s category, which from November 2, 2026 needs the policy at any sales level. Our guide to apparel and footwear on Amazon covers the garment questions in more depth.
Coffee, lokum, hazelnuts and other ingestibles
Turkish coffee, lokum, tahini, dried fruit and hazelnuts all count as ingestibles, another enhanced-safety category from November 2, 2026. For these, the policy comes before the first US order, whatever the monthly sales.
Allergens lead the underwriting questions. Under the FASTER Act, sesame became the ninth major food allergen in 2023, beside tree nuts, peanuts, milk and the others, and US labels have to declare them. A box of lokum with pistachios or a jar of tahini needs that declaration on the English label exactly as it ships. Underwriters also ask who produces each item, whether the producer has US food facility registration, and how the goods are packed for the journey.
Paperwork from a Turkish company
Turkish legal names carry letters such as ş, ğ, ç and the dotted and dotless i, and those letters often change when a name passes through English-language systems. Copy the name from Account Info rather than retyping it, and if Account Info differs from the Ticaret Sicili Gazetesi, settle which version is correct before we bind.
Smaller sellers often trade as a şahıs şirketi, a sole proprietorship, and then the policy names the owner, with the trade name after it. For a limited şirket or anonim şirket, the policy names the company itself. Either way we ask for the vergi numarası, a trade registry record, Amazon.com sales for the last twelve months, the product list with ASINs, the mill or workshop behind each line, and your claims history.
Tell us how goods travel as well: SEND, your own forwarder, or a US warehouse that prepares stock for FBA. Each route answers the question of who acts as importer of record, and that party shares in the product liability exposure.
The same clock all year
Türkiye has kept UTC+3 all year since September 2016, so Turkish clocks never change. The gap to the US Pacific coast is ten hours while US clocks are on daylight time and eleven after they fall back on November 1, 2026; to New York it is seven and then eight. Because only the US side moves, the gap shifts on US dates alone.
We work with hundreds of Amazon sellers, and Turkish brands often reach us with Amazon’s request already counting down. We send one checklist, work entirely by email so you can reply at the end of your day in Istanbul or Denizli, and return the policy, endorsement and certificate as one set. Every other guide in this series sits on our Amazon seller insurance hub.
A few useful answers
Common questions
Does a Turkish ürün sorumluluk policy cover suits filed in the US?
Not on the standard general conditions, which exclude suits in courts outside Türkiye unless the contract says otherwise. Ask your insurer for both the jurisdiction and the geographic clauses in writing before relying on it.
Can a şahıs şirketi buy US product liability through Mithril1?
It can, if an insurer takes on the products after reviewing them. We request US product liability for sole proprietors and companies based in Türkiye, with the owner or company named exactly as the seller account shows.
What test reports should a Turkish rug seller send for a quote?
Send the test reports to 16 CFR part 1630 or 1631 and the General Certificate of Conformity based on them, along with the fiber content and the size range you list on Amazon.com.
Does using Amazon SEND change the insurance I need?
SEND moves stock to US fulfillment centers; product liability answers claims from US customers. Tell us whether you use it, because the route shows who handles customs and import.
Do Turkish food products need insurance before $10,000 a month?
From November 2, 2026, ingestibles sit in Amazon’s enhanced-safety categories, which need the $1 million policy at any sales level. Look up each food ASIN in the category list Seller Central shows today.
