List the services, not just the business name

  • Write down each hair, beauty or skin-care service offered and any treatment you plan to add.
  • Describe who performs each service, including employees and people renting space or chairs.
  • Separate product sales from treatments and note services provided away from the salon.

Gather premises and equipment details

  • Keep the lease’s insurance requirements with your premises details.
  • List equipment, fixtures and stock, including items belonging to someone else.
  • Prepare staffing and payroll information and explain how space-sharing arrangements work.
  • Note requests for certificates from a landlord, event venue or other business.

Questions to discuss before adding a service

  • Does the policy describe each treatment we perform?
  • How do the policy terms address treatment-related allegations and customer injuries?
  • What insurance responsibilities should each party clarify when renting a chair or sharing space?

Keep this list with your business records and update it when your work changes. Your answers give the insurance conversation a concrete starting point; the checklist does not determine which policy you need.
